Hesperia Heat Select/All-Star Program

Hesperia Heat Select Program

What is the Hesperia Heat Select Team?

Hesperia Heat is a program following the fall season open only to players who participated in the fall season, in U10, U12, U14 U16 and U19 divisions. This is an opportunity for players to improve their skills in a more competitive environment. Players who are interested need to turn in an player interest form (available online) and bring with them to the tryout session. These are voluntary, but they are going to be one of the best ways for the select coaches to see the players that are trying out to be selected on a team. The teams are formed in November, with practices starting in December. The season typically runs from mid-December through the end of June.

Player Tryouts and Selection

For each age group and gender, the coaches get together and draft the players for that age/gender group. Coaches will have scouted the players at a game. Each coach is looking for different things. It is subjective. Each team needs referees to be eligible for tournaments. It is possible that a player will be selected because one of their parents is a referee. Once again it is subjective. You can download the Select/AllStar Player Interest Form and bring it with you to the appropriate tryout listed below.

Registration costs $150. The tournament fees can cost $40-$70 per tournament per player. There will be lodging costs, meal costs, and transportation costs. This can amount to $450 depending on the number of tournaments the team decides to play in. There is no financial assistance for these costs. For planning purposes, you should figure it may cost around $500.00 per child to play Select.  Significant fundraising opportunities are available.  It is possible that most, if not all, of the fees can be paid for through fundraising activities.

Criteria for the Select Season

We encourage all eligible players (U10 and above) to apply! To be eligible to participate in the Select program a player must be registered, and must have participated, in the prior fall season no later than the first weekend in October. The player must participate in at least 50 percent of the Fall Season. Rained-out games are included as games played, and players must meet regional playing time guidelines (currently half of each fall game). Players are expected to attend regularly scheduled practices. Exceptions to the eligibility requirements above may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with approval of the Select Committee. Players must participate in the same division in Select as they participated in during the prior Fall Season. The number of teams that will be formed in each division varies from year to year. In general, you can expect up to 1 Select team for every 6 fall teams. This will primarily depend on the number of qualified volunteer coaches. U10 coaches must have completed the U12 coaching class in order to be considered to coach U10. All other coaches, including assistants must have the appropriate coaching class level to their age group. There will be no exceptions to this rule. You will travel extensively throughout Southern California and other Southwest cities.

A high level of commitment is expected from both the coaches, players and the parents. Select is for motivated and enthusiastic players. For the good of the team, a player must regularly attend practices and games. Parents are expected to participate in league organization.

Required forms for Players and Coach are available from the website.
